In Puerto Rico, the 1741 regulation stated that “the clothing of the companies of infantry and artillery will be of blue wool cloth with red cuffs, red waistcoat and stockings of this color [red] …to be issued every 24 to 30 months” (AGI, Santo Domingo 2499). The linen clothing is hinted at, but not described. It is interesting to note that the uniforms for Puerto Rico were supplied from Vera Cruz, so the linen uniform may have been similar to that of the marine battalion there. By 1765, and certainly for some years previously, the Puerto Rico battalion’s only uniform was of white “Bramante” linen with blue collar and cuffs and gold buttons

Shoes - were straight lasted - meaning there was no left or right as you wore the shoes, they would conform to the feet.
